DESCRIPTION:Wintertime is owling time! Join us for an owl prowl where we will look and listen for owls. We will primarily be listening for owls\, and if lucky\, we may get to see one! We will look for Great Horned\, Barred\, Eastern Screech\, Short-eared and Northern Saw-Whet owls. Please note that there will be some walking in the dark and possibly snow. \nRegistration is required. Space is limited to better enhance our chances of finding owls. Weather conditions can affect owling and safety\, so registrants will be notified of any cancellations. \nThe precise location of each trip will be provided to registrants. Please note—We will try\, but owls are secretive by nature so finding one is not guaranteed.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for Common Ground\, the only farmland access gathering in northern Illinois!  At this unique educational and social event\, farmers\, landowners\, and supporters come together to gain practical skills\, brainstorm creative solutions\, share success stories\, and build community. Our shared goal is to see local farmers thrive\, and that begins with land access. \nCommon Ground North is a collaborative effort of many partners – The Land Conservancy of McHenry County\, Center for Agrarian Learning at McHenry County College\, Farmers Rising\, Illinois FarmLink\, Northern Illinois Young Farmers\, and The Conservation Fund. \nIn its eighth year\, Common Ground North has become a yearly touchpoint in people’s land access journeys\, a place to check in with yourself and each other about your land or farmer search and what additional support you might need. You’ll leave feeling motivated and more equipped for the next step. \nAdmission is $10 (pre-registration required). SUMMARY:New Year’s Eve Oak Rescue
DESCRIPTION:Get your New Year’s Eve off to a great start by helping out at an oak rescue in beautiful McHenry County\, where we will work to rescue a mighty oak tree! \nWhat is an oak rescue? It’s an opportunity for people to work together to free an old oak tree from the brush that surrounds it. Some people cut the brush with saws while others stack the brush into piles that we burn to keep warm. It’s a few hours of work that is gratifying because the big old oak is left in a healthier state … free to breathe and reach out its branches. And its acorns are able to grow into big old oaks. \nCome enjoy the winter air and the warm feeling of doing something good for the McHenry County landscape! Afterward your hard work will be rewarded with a lunch of brats and hot dogs. Feel free to bring a dish to pass if you like. \nPlease register if you are planning to attend\, so we can be sure to have enough food. However\, last-minute volunteers are welcome to attend.
