DESCRIPTION:You can help collect native seed to help restore TLC’s 1\,000 acres of local prairies and woodlands throughout McHenry County! Join the fun with this hands-on outdoor activity. We will collect seeds from native plants\, and the seed collected will eventually be spread and sowed to help local wildlife and pollinators!  \nNo experience necessary\, we will help you learn the different plants we want to collect seed from.  \nBring gloves and water (and paper bags & hand snips if you have them!) Please wear closed-toe shoes with socks. \nThere will be seven organized events on Thursdays in September and October\, weather permitting – come to one\, or come to all! \nReach out to Daniel Pohl at dpohl@conservemc.org or Kevin Wendtland at kwendtland@conservemc.org with any questions. All seed collecting events are free\, please register at ConserveMC.org\, or just show up if it’s not raining!

Join ANFT-certified forest therapy guide Cathy McCauley in marking the autumnal equinox on this two-hour guided forest walk. You’ll be guided in community to notice what is happening on the land and inside your heart through a series of slow and expansive invitations focusing on being present to sensory awareness. We will offer opportunities to share your experiences with the group.The slow walk will be about a mile and will conclude with a short celebration with snacks and tea to honor the land.  Dress for the weather and bugs; closed-toed shoes are suggested.

SUMMARY:Beginner’s Chainsaw Training
DESCRIPTION:Want to learn to chainsaw\, but don’t know how to get started? Join TLC’s staff Restoration Tech Kevin Wendtland and Ecologist Daniel Pohl to learn the basics in a hands-on way. Participants will be introduced to protective equipment\, basic chainsaw maintenance\, and the development of technique to safely fell a tree and cut it up.  \nParticipants are welcome to bring their own protective equipment such as leather gloves\, safety glasses\, earplugs\, and chaps\, but we will have some for people to use during the class as well. Participants are also invited to bring their own chainsaws! This class is tailored to beginners who have never used a chainsaw. Please bring lunch and water.
