SUMMARY:Wolf Oak Woods Restoration Workday
DESCRIPTION:Wolf Oak Woods is named after the Wolf Oak\, a large bur oak that is believed to be more than 350 years old. The sprawling nature of its heavy limbs cause them to swoop down to touch the ground and grow back up again toward the light. The Wolf Oak\, clearly visible from Route 120\, has become a culural icon and ecological relic. \nBeyond the Wolf Oak tree\, the preserve includes 30 acres of ecologically intact wetland and oak woodland. In spring\, you will see a carpet of spring wildflowers such as Dutchman’s breeches and shooting star. In the summer\, a restored prairie near the Wolf Oak bursts with summer wildflowers to create pollinator habitat. \nIt has been quite some time since there has been a work day at this fabulous site. Come on out and help us fight back some invasive brush is trying to take hold again! \nDirections: From the intersection of Rt. 14 and Dean St in Woodstock: head north on Dean St toward US-14 E for 1.1 miles. Turn right onto E South St/U.S. 14 Business Rt. for 0.1 miles and take a left onto S Madison St. Continue for 0.4 miles and turn right onto IL-120 E/McHenry Ave. Continue for 4 miles and take a right to stay on Rt. 120 E. Continue for 1 mile. The parking area for Wolf Oak Woods will be on the left (north) side of the road.
