DESCRIPTION:Weekly Crowley Workdays have returned\, thanks to our new site co-steward: Julie!! She and Larry will be continuing the tradition at this magnificent wooded 80 acre site! Work will continue clearing invasive brush\, under the pines southwest of the central wetland\, to allow more light to reach the understory and encourage native plants and new oaks to grow. We’ll meet near the parking lot entrance and walk back together. \nDirections: From the intersection of 173 and 14 in Harvard\, head east on 173 and continue for 3.2 miles. Turn left (west) on Crowley Road\, and continue for 0.2 miles. The site will be to the north\, park in the lot.

SUMMARY:Final Friday with Kathryn at Van Maren Conservation Easement
DESCRIPTION:It has been a LONG TIME so: Let’s clear some brush around the mighty oaks at the Van Maren easement! With about 29 acres of remnant oak woodland\, this easement protects a big portion of one of the largest intact remnant oak communities in McHenry County (plus wetland and farmland). \nDirections: From US Highway Rte. 14\, 4 miles south of Harvard or 7 miles north of Woodstock\, head west on Lembcke Rd for 1.3 miles. On the north side of the road\, park on the little gravel access drive at the pinned location\, or feel free to park in the grass along the ditch between cornfields. If you’d like\, you can drive north on the grass along the ditch to get closer to the work site (which is approximately here). Keep an eye out for TLC staff to guide you or follow the sounds of chainsaws.
