Turn right (south) onto Schultz Rd and continue for 0.3 miles. Turn left (east) onto Lincoln Rd\, and continue for 0.5 miles. The entrance to the site will be on the right (south) and is a gravel lane between a wooded fence row and a farm field. We’ll park at the kiosk and walk in along the farm field.

This workday will focus on brush and cutting up fallen trees at the south end of the conservation to connect the trail from the new entrance to the existing trail system. \nWe’ll enter the conservation area at the new entrance so please park at the intersection of Gerry St. and Kimball. If you get there after the crew has left the parking area\, head in and follow the sound of chainsaws. \nDirections: from the square in downtown Woodstock\, head south to South St. Turn right (west) and follow that for 0.3 miles. Turn left (south) onto Gerry St. and continue for 0.4 miles. Park along Gerry St. near Kimball. If you happen to arrive a little late just follow the smoke and the sound of chainsaws.

Come join us this Tuesday as we continue to clear Buckthorn and Honeysuckle on the upland “island” in the middle of the wetland south of the main ridge! \nDirections: From Woodstock\, take South Street southwest out of town and over 14. After you cross 14\, take the first right (north) into the Westwood subdivision. Take all left turns until you hit a dead end. That is\, turn left onto Moraine Drive\, turn left onto Westwood Trail\, continue left onto Westwood Trail\, and turn left on Hillside Trail. At the end of Hillside Trail is a grassy two track that will lead to a small parking space and the entry kiosk for the park.

The workday will consist of clearing invasive brush from under the Oaks. \n*Note* All volunteers will have to sign a visitor’s release to work on the property. There will likely be animals in the vicinity since Main Stay is a horse farm\, but they won’t be in the pasture we’re working in. \nDirections: North of Wonder Lake\, driving north on Keystone Road take a left into the parking lot. There is a sign for Main Stay Therapeutic Farm. We will walk back together through the facility and back into the natural easement area.

DESCRIPTION:Get your New Year’s Eve off to a great start by helping out at an oak rescue in beautiful McHenry County\, where we will work to rescue a mighty oak tree! \nWhat is an oak rescue? It’s an opportunity for people to work together to free an old oak tree from the brush that surrounds it. Some people cut the brush with saws while others stack the brush into piles that we burn to keep warm. It’s a few hours of work that is gratifying because the big old oak is left in a healthier state … free to breathe and reach out its branches. And its acorns are able to grow into big old oaks. \nCome enjoy the winter air and the warm feeling of doing something good for the McHenry County landscape! Afterward your hard work will be rewarded with a lunch of brats and hot dogs. Feel free to bring a dish to pass if you like. \nPlease register if you are planning to attend\, so we can be sure to have enough food. However\, last-minute volunteers are welcome to attend.
