SUMMARY:Crowley Oaks Restoration Workday
DESCRIPTION:Join Larry for another restoration adventure at Crowley Oak Woods! Restoration has been occurring on this 80 acre tract since the winter of 2020 and we’re making excellent progress clearing the brush from the highest quality areas of the preserve. Turn left (west) on Crowley Road\, and continue for 0.2 miles. The site will be to the north\, and you may park along the road. SUMMARY:Boloria Meadows Restoration Workday
DESCRIPTION:This workday meets on the second Saturday of the month. Dennis Dreher is our dedicated steward leading these workdays and has been helping to breathe life back into this incredible site since 2006. Just when we thought we were running out of brush to clear we recently added another 15 acres of beautiful oak woodland that connects the site to Ridge road! Within the tangles of bittersweet\, buckthorn and honeysuckle\, a valuable ecosystem is in need of the sweet relief that only a skilled sawyer with a chainsaw can provide. Come give Dennis a hand recovering the dormant beauty from under the brush and check out all of the wonderful features this new addition to the site has to offer! \nWe’re working on a new parking area but it’s not quite finished yet so please continue to meet at the address above for now.

SUMMARY:Final Friday Workday - Finch Farm with Kim!
DESCRIPTION:Finch Farm contains ~126 acres of tillable land; ~21 acres of remnant savanna; and ~3 acres of homestead. The purpose of this easement is to preserve the natural and agricultural areas of the parcels that make up “Finch Farm”. The savanna was historically a pasture for dairy cows; the density of the understory brush has increased since the cessation of grazing and is managed for invasive species. The remnant savanna on the property was managed for invasive species during the early 1990’s; with occasional workdays beginning in 2019 (Final Friday Conservation Easement Workdays with The Land Conservancy of McHenry County). Prairie seed was hand-broadcasted into the savanna in 2019. \nFrom Woodstock\, head east on 120 for 2.4 miles. A house will be on your left (north)\, announcing Finch Farm. You may park in the driveway.

SUMMARY:Cold Springs Park Restoration Workday
DESCRIPTION:Come join Friends of Cold Springs Park to help them with their restoration efforts in their neighborhood woodland! The property is primarily made up of sedge meadow and wet prairies with sections of degraded woodlands as well. This once large\, open wet grassland has been artificially drained to varying degrees and heavily pastured well into the past. The main goal of management here will be to reconnect and reopen these areas to resurrect the extensive wetland that once existed here. \nThe pin will take you to a parking area at the end of the street. \nPin: https://maps.app.goo.gl/vYxKNPFRP2w1Wr4W9

SUMMARY:Kishwaukee Fen Restoration Workday
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the arrival of autumn through a morning of stewardship at the fen. As the end of the growing season draws closer\, more and more wetland seeds are ripening and ready to gather. \nWe’ll gather the seeds of precious wetland species to return to the ecosystem once they’ve been prepped and mixed. Blazing star\, flat-topped aster\, cowbane\, and more await loving hands to collect and broadcast. \nThe pernicious invasive purple loosestrife has also been busy making seeds – their seed heads are growing riper\, but we still have time to hunt them down\, clip and bag them before they do any more damage. \nCome one\, come all! \nWe’ll meet at 9am at the end of Palmer Drive in the Village of Lakewood\, and work until around 12pm. If you’re thinking of coming\, please RSVP to this email. \nWear sturdy\, waterproof boots\, bring plenty of water and a snack. \n\n\n\nRSVP to kishfenfriends@gmail.com if you would like to attend.

SUMMARY:Cancelled - Wolf Oak Woods Restoration Workday
DESCRIPTION:Cancelled due to the weather – will likely be rescheduled for Monday.  \nJoin us for a workday with Pete at Wolf Oak woods in Woodstock! We’ll be working on clearing honeysuckle and buckthorn but we’d also like to clean up some of the many fallen oaks that have come down over the past couple of years. Dead oaks are a beneficial part of woodland so the goal is only to remove enough so that we can get into certain areas with a mower.Pin: https://goo.gl/maps/mrRw1hE9ad4zPCQSA
