A Prescribed Burn at Irish Oaks Nature Preserve

Published on

Last week a group of volunteers came out to help with a prescribed burn at Irish Oaks! Prescribed burns are conducted rotationally to mimic what would have occurred before Illinois was settled. Native plants, which are adapted to fire, benefit from the recycled nutrients, and invasive shrubs are killed. Ultimately, by conducting occasional prescribed burns, the overall health and biodiversity of these ecosystems are increased. Great work team! 🔥
