Garlic Mustard Weed Pull at Wolf Oak Woods

Come on out to join Pete for a Wolf Oak reunion and a worthy cause! Like last year, we’ll be teaming up with students from Woodstock High School to hand pull garlic mustard that is popping up amongst the spring ephemerals that are blooming. This is an aggressive biennial plant which means it completes its life cycle in 2 years and only sets seed during the second year. It likes to take advantage of the early growing season just like our spring ephemeral natives and which tend to get shaded out by their dense patches that can dominate an understory in a very short amount of time. It’s important to stay on top of GM management and with all those limber teens I’m positive we can ! Let’s meet in the parking lot and Pete will direct you to your quarry.
Directions: From the intersection of Rt. 14 and Dean St in Woodstock: head north on Dean St toward US-14 E for 1.1 miles. Turn right onto E South St/U.S. 14 Business Rt. for 0.1 miles and take a left onto S Madison St. Continue for 0.4 miles and turn right onto IL-120 E/McHenry Ave. Continue for 4 miles and take a right to stay on Rt. 120 E. Continue for 1 mile. Parking area for Wolf Oak Woods will be on your left.
