Over the past weeks, we’ve made a huge start and have largely finished our first project at Kishwaukee Fen Nature Preserve, clearing the brush and small trees that have been slowly suffocating the first of the preserve’s two rare hanging fens.
The best time to complete this brush-cutting project is NOW! Later, when there’s snow on the ground, it will be harder to deal with the smaller brush.
Come on out to the Fen for three back-to-back pre-winter, pre-holiday workdays:
Sunday, December 5
Sunday, December 12
Sunday, December 19
These three weeks are our big final push to complete this great step of Kishwaukee Fen’s recovery and restoration!
We work from 9am to 12pm. Stay for as much as fits your schedule. If you’d like, bring lunch to eat around the fire at the end.
*For those who are interested, we’ll also be discussing seed dispersal and planning and will walk the site to explore and decide next priorities. All are welcome to join and contribute to planning and learning sessions.
It will help the planning if you can RSVP for days you plan to come. You can RSVP on Facebook at https://fb.me/e/1nVCtO1Bb
