Happy New Year, Friends of Kishwaukee Fen!
We ended 2024 cutting back invasive brush that is shading out the banks of the Kishwaukee headwaters. The bare ground, once starved for sunlight, is getting brighter and brighter — awaiting new seeds to repopulate a stream side wetland.
We’ll kick off 2025 this Sunday, January 12th, by tackling some of the larger brush that threatens the health of one of the gems of this site, a rich, raised fen by the stream. Join in building a hot fire, and cutting back the looming willows on the edge of the fen.
Meet at the end of Palmer Drive in the Village of Lakewood at 9am. We’ll work until around noon, breaking for snacks and ecological discussion
