Pistakee Bay Restoration Workday

June 20 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Come out to lend a hand cleaning up one of TLC’s only lakefront properties! The land is situated on an island in Pistakee Bay, accessible by foot or car over a bridge that leads one back to a place in time when well-to-do Chicagoans would come out to escape the stress of city life. The area was historically known as “Palm Beach,” and looks out across the bay to Coon Island. We will begin clearing invasive species in order to restore it to forested floodplain, providing prime habitat for a diversity of birds, mammals and amphibians. But first, we need to address the many fallen cottonwood trees that are overcrowding the understory.
Directions: From the intersection of Rt. 31 and Johnsburg rd. head east on Johnsburg rd and continue 1.4 mi. At the traffic circle, take the 1st exit onto N Chapel Hill rd and continue for 0.7mi. Turn left onto Bay rd and continue for 1.6 mi. Turn left onto N Bayview ln and continue until you reach the last house at the end of the road. Park in the grassy triangle area closest to the woods but watch out of the 2 rocks.
Nearest Address: 3203 N Bayview Ln McHenry IL
