Slough Creek Wetland Bank Restoration Workday

Come check out a new(ish) TLC site! Slough Creek Wetland is approximately 83 acres of wetland, sedge meadow and wet prairie located in the Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge corridore and adjacent to Slough Creek Fen Nature Reserve. This site was donated to us in 2020 and it’s time to begin the radical restoration transformation! There’s also a wooded portion of the property that is overgrown with buckthorn and honeysuckle, this is the area where we’ll be working. Along with removing invasive brush, we’ll also be cleaning up some of fallen dead trees and random tangles obstructing access.
Directions: From the intersection of Charles Rd. and Rt. 47 in Woodstock, head West on Charles Rd. for 0.7mi. Turn right onto Raycraft Rd. and continue for 1.7mi. Turn left onto Jankowski Rd and continue for 0.3 miles. Our property will be on the right and you can park just before the bridge.

Are you an experienced sawyer looking to help out at one of our workdays? Great!
We just ask that you demonstrate, to either myself or Mr. Ducci, your ability to follow safety procedures when
felling and bucking a tree at the start of the workday. All sawyers must bring their own gear
including: saw, fuel, bar oil, chaps, hearing and eye protection.
Tips to make your workday experience safe/enjoyable:
Bring plenty of water – better to bring too much than too little!
Sturdy boots are best or old tennis shoes will do too
Leather gloves or gardening gloves, an extra pair in the winter is a good idea
Long sleeves/pants – to prevent scrapes and scratches from branches
Hat – to protect your noggin and beautiful hair from flying embers
Sunglasses or eye protection
Feel free to bring loppers if you’ve got them — be sure to label them
