Tryon Grove Restoration Workday
September 21, 2023 @ 9:00 am
For this workday we’ll continue working on the southeast section of woods. Thankfully we haven’t run into any more porcelain vine this year but you never know where they could be lurking so let’s stay vigilant. Now that we’ve finished clearing the brush along the woods edge and let in some much needed light, we’ll start working towards the interior. There are still several big mulberries to remove and enough buckthorn, honeysuckle, and bittersweet to keep several sawyers busy so come on out and bring a friend!!
Directions: the property is located off of Barnard Mill Road 4.1 miles west of Ringwood, or 1.1 miles south of Tryon Grove Rd. Turn onto Oak Hill Drive, which can be difficult to spot. You can pull over on the side of Oak Hill Drive and we will walk to the site from there. Walk down the first gravel driveway, and then follow the mowed trail to the site. Listen for the chainsaws once you get to the woods. An ATV will be available for transport if weather conditions allow.
Nearest address: 6519 Oak Hill Dr, Richmond Township, IL 60071

Sawyers Welcome!
Are you an experienced sawyer looking to help out at one of our workdays? Great!
We just ask that you demonstrate, to either myself or Mr. Ducci, your ability to follow safety procedures
when felling and bucking a tree at the start of the workday. All sawyers must bring their own gear
including: saw, fuel, bar oil, chaps, hearing and eye protection.
Tips to make your workday experience safe/enjoyable:
Bring plenty of water – better to bring too much than too little!
Sturdy boots are best or old tennis shoes will do too
Leather gloves or gardening gloves, an extra pair in the winter is a good idea
Long sleeves/pants – to prevent scrapes and scratches from branches
Hat – to protect your noggin and beautiful hair from flying embers
Sunglasses or eye protection
Feel free to bring loppers if you’ve got them — be sure to label them
