Tryon Oaks Woods Restoration Workday

January 20, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

This is a great TLC site located within the Hackmatack national Wildlife Refuge. Beneath the dense brush there persists a layer of quality natives and so much potential. There are old oak groves and wetland resources which act as important corridors for surrounding natural areas.
Want to help out? Just show up Thursday at 10:00 a.m.! Our friendly crew of volunteers would love to meet you.
We’ve made a lot of progress on the interior NE corner of the woodland but wow that the ground is frozen this will be a good time to start clearing the dense area of buckthorn on the opposite side of the creek from where we were working over the summer. We’ll have the mini skid and grapple to help get equipment to the back.
Directions: the property is located off of Barnard Mill Road 4.1 miles west of Ringwood, or 1.1 miles south of Tryon Grove Rd. Turn onto Oak Hill Drive, which can be difficult to spot. You can pull over on the side of Oak Hill Drive and we will walk to the site from there. Walk down the first gravel driveway, and then follow the mowed trail to site. Listen for the chainsaws once you get to the woods. An ATV will be available for transport if weather conditions allow.
Nearest address: 6519 Oak Hill Dr, Richmond Township, IL 60071
