York Conservation Area Restoration Workday

May 30 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

This small, 2.5 acre site was donated to The Land Conservancy in 2011. Although small in size, its proximity to a high quality wetland complex, which is adjacent to our Tryon Creek Woods site, make it an important corridor for wildlife. This parcel was densely wooded with several giant white oaks and many smaller shagbark hickory but is slowly being thinned of weedy tree species with each visit! This workday will focus on continuing to untangle the beneficial native trees and shrubs from the bittersweet and porcelain vine that’s choking them.

Directions: From the intersection of 120 and 31 in McHenry, head north on 31 for 3.6 miles. Turn left (west) onto Barnard Mill Road and continue for 3.4 miles. Turn left (west) onto Howe Road and continue for 1.3 miles. Turn right (north) onto Giant Oaks and continue for 0.3 miles. Park on the side of the road just north of the driveway for 6016 Giant Oaks Road.

Nearest address: Just north of 6016 Giant Oaks Road, Wonder Lake, IL
