Meet TLC Member Andrea Arrigo

Whether you live in Spring Grove, Marengo, or somewhere in between, McHenry County is home to people who know the importance of preserving land for life.
Get to know one of the people who have taken the first step and joined The Land Conservancy of McHenry County.
How did you find out about The Land Conservancy of McHenry County?
It has been several years since I learned about TLC, but I think it was when I was taking some horticulture classes at the community college. While doing some research online, I found TLC and was really interested in having our property become a Conservation@Home certified property.
Why did you decide to become a member of TLC?
As I grew to become a proponent of native plants, I found TLC’s native plant sales and also purchased a couple Memorial Celebration Oak trees through TLC’s program. I just kept finding myself drawn to their website, resources and events, and decided it was time to become an official member.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining TLC?
Supporting this invaluable organization right here in our county is helping us keep our neighborhoods and public spaces beautiful and sustainable for our families and ecosystem, present and future. Not to mention how helpful the staff are and what great events and outreach they do. It’s just such a great organization to support. And the cost to be a member is very reasonable as well.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I want to specifically thank Sarah, Carol, and Linda for helping me with my native landscape project. They came out on multiple occasions to walk my property with me and give recommendations on what would work best on my land. Since then I’ve planted many native trees, shrubs and plants. They helped me make the dream come alive for someone who had never planted a native or made a landscape design before. Like I said before, the staff are so generous and kind. We are really fortunate to have this great organization available to us right here in McHenry County.
