This purple milkweed was found at a high-qualty natural area near Woodstock. It’s different from common milkweed with its deep purple flowers, narrower leaves and terminal flowers. It differs from swamp milkweed in that its leaves have a different color and texture. This plant is a savanna indicator, meaning that it’s restricted to a true oak savanna or edge of a woodland.
