Tryon Creek Woods Restoration Workday
Published on
14 July 2025
Situated in the Greenwood Corridor of the Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge, Tryon offers nearly 40 acres of Oak/Hickory woodland, grassland, wetland, and sedge meadow habitats. We will continue clearing Buckthorn and Honeysuckle in the woodland, that have taken hold over the past several decades, depriving the woods of its full potential.
Directions: the property is located off of Barnard Mill Road 4.1 miles west of Ringwood, or 1.1 miles south of Tryon Grove Rd. Turn onto Oak Hill Drive, which can be difficult to spot. You can pull over on the side of Oak Hill Drive and we will walk to the site from there. Walk down the first gravel driveway, and then follow the mowed trail to the site. Listen for the chainsaws once you get to the woods. An ATV will be available for transport if weather conditions allow
