There are a number of dates, times and roles available from Monday, September 8 – Saturday, September 13, 2025.

VOLUNTEER ROLES

Pack Vehicles: Assist with packing/unpacking the event equipment into vehicles for transport to/from the McHenry County Fairgrounds. Set up event space.

General Setup: Erect and move 8-foot tables, sign placement, and general space setup.

Plant/Tree/Shrub Receiving: Assist with unloading plants, trees, and shrubs from the delivery truck. Organize items alphabetically and place them on the correct table. Must be able to lift plant trays, trees, and shrubs. 

Plant Tagging: Place tags in individual plant cells. This task can be accomplished while standing or sitting.

Order Assembly: Volunteers work in pairs to fill customer orders, double check the orders, and alphabetize them in the plant pickup area. Attention to detail and accuracy required! Must be able to lift plant trays, trees, and shrubs.

Plant Care: Water plants, trees, and shrubs.

Sale Section Setup: Organize and set up plants, trees, and shrubs for sale section. 

Order Pickup: Move customer orders from the pickup area to the customer’s car. Must be able to lift plant trays, trees, and shrubs. 

Plant Expert: Answer customer questions about plants, trees, and shrubs for sale during the plant sale/order pickup days. Friendly disposition, patience, and advanced knowledge of native plants is required. Keep sale section organized, swept, and clean.

Traffic and Parking: Keep traffic flowing in the right direction, and make sure the parking area is organized and safe during the plant sale/order pickup days. Volunteers in this role should be comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather elements.

Greeter: Welcome and direct customers as they arrive during the plant sale/order pickup days. Must be friendly and patient. Volunteers in this role should be comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather elements.

Count Customer Plants: While customers are in line, count the numbers of colored sticks and write on receipt paper to expedite checkout process.

Photographer: Take pictures of the event and products for future promotional use. Edit and upload photos after event to a dedicated drive.
