About Barbara Schneider

My work is rooted in the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi — the beauty found in things that are imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. Through textiles, stitching, photography, and layered surface design, I explore how natural forms, weathered objects, reflections, and fragmented imagery can reveal unexpected beauty and meaning.

I am drawn to leaves, bark, tree rings, old fabrics, reflections in water, and worn faces — subjects marked by age, change, and transformation. By enlarging, reshaping, layering, and stitching these forms, I invite light, shadow, texture, and movement to become part of the work itself.

Walking, observing, collecting, and reflecting are central to my process. Whether inspired by the natural landscape or by found objects and images, each series becomes an exploration of seeing: what the eye notices, what the camera captures, and what the mind remembers.

Ultimately, my work is about reflection — physical, emotional, and spiritual — and the quiet wonder found in the imperfect world around us.
