Final Friday with Kathryn at Van Maren Conservation Easement

It has been a LONG TIME so: Let’s clear some brush around the mighty oaks at the Van Maren easement! With about 29 acres of remnant oak woodland, this easement protects a big portion of one of the largest intact remnant oak communities in McHenry County (plus wetland and farmland).

Directions: From US Highway Rte. 14, 4 miles south of Harvard or 7 miles north of Woodstock, head west on Lembcke Rd for 1.3 miles. On the north side of the road, park on the little gravel access drive at the pinned location, or feel free to park in the grass along the ditch between cornfields. If you’d like, you can drive north on the grass along the ditch to get closer to the work site (which is approximately here). Keep an eye out for TLC staff to guide you or follow the sounds of chainsaws.
