Westwood Conservation Area Restoration Workday
January 23, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Volunteers are needed at Westwood Conservation Area in Woodstock!
In this woodland, volunteers are needed to remove invasive species that prohibit the growth of native trees and plants. We cut brush such as buckthorn, honeysuckle, and small willows with chainsaws and hand loppers. Volunteers can cut or help build and burn brush piles.
No experience is necessary, so if you love being outside, come join our team of friendly volunteers! Tools and light refreshments are provided. Please dress in long pants, sturdy shoes and old clothing for working near a burn pile.
In 2010 Westwood Park was dedicated as an Illinois Nature Preserve and buffer for the adjacent TLC Yonder Prairie. Restoration work has been underway for several years to open up the woodland full of massive oaks, and to gently transition the edge into prairie.
