Westwood Conservation Area Restoration Workday
November 10, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
*** Please note this workday may be cancelled if conditions are right for controlled burning ***
Westwood is a Woodstock owned Illinois Nature Preserve buffer and serves as a ‘protective’ zone that helps slow the spread of invasive species into Yonder Prairie. We’ve got buckthorn and other wily exotics taking refuge amongst some downed trees that are hindering restoration progress and could use a hand cutting and burning them.
Directions: From Woodstock, take South Street southwest out of town and over 14. After you cross 14, take the first right (north) into the Westwood subdivision. Take all left turns until you hit a dead end. That is, turn left onto Moraine Drive, turn left onto Westwood Trail, continue left onto Westwood Trail, and turn left on Hillside Trail. At the end of Hillside Trail is a grassy two track that will lead to a small parking space and the entry kiosk for the park.
Nearest address: 1529 Hillside Trail, Woodstock, IL 60098

Tips to make your workday experience safe/enjoyable:
Bring plenty of water – better to bring too much than too little!
Sturdy boots or old tennis shoes
Leather gloves or gardening gloves
Long sleeves/pants – prevent scrapes and scratches from branches
Certain bug sprays and tucking pants into socks helps guard against ticks
Hat – helps protect hair from embers
Sunglasses or eye protection
Layer up in cold weather
Feel free to bring loppers if you’ve got them
