Meet TLC Member Dustin Graves
How did you find out about TLC?
I discovered TLC when we bought our property in Bull Valley in 2019. It was completely overgrown with invasive species and had been neglected, and we were looking for resources to help return it to its natural potential.
Why did you decide to become a member of TLC?
When I read about the Conservation@Home program, I knew I had to get involved. I’ve been interested in native plants since I was young, but the scale of our current property was large enough that I needed outside help. Sarah and her team provide actionable recommendations and support to help us stay motivated and focused.
What would you tell someone who’s thinking about joining TLC?
I tell others that I’ve had a wonderful experience with TLC. It’s an organization with good people, and its work is critical for our community. TLC has been an important part of the ongoing transformation of our land and can help others get started with their own restoration projects.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I love the native plant sales. After we get the plants in the ground and they mature, I can look back at what an area once was and what it has become—and the diverse ecology it now supports. It gives us profound sense of accomplishment and creates a healthier natural environment around our home. It’s the right thing to do and a good example for my son of getting involved where you can, putting in a little hard work, and making a difference.
