The Land Conservancy of McHenry County (TLC) has been awarded a $16,440 Mission Grant from The Community Foundation for McHenry County to help fund TLC’s Conservation Leader Internship Program (CLIP) in 2022.

The grant will fund a portion of the CLIP program as well as support a slate of classes on conservation topics hosted in conjunction with local community groups.

TLC’s CLIP program was launched in 2021 with the goal of giving people in underserved communities training in the field of conservation. The program, a paid summer internship, is a hands-on learning experience, giving participants the knowledge and skills needed to become conservation professionals, and it is one of the first programs of its kind in the field.

Lisa Haderlein, TLC’s executive director said, “We are thrilled to receive this grant from the McHenry County Community Foundation supporting TLC’s Conservation Leader Internship Program. The inaugural program was a great success—the enthusiasm and energy of our graduates makes me excited for the future of the conservation field, especially in McHenry County. We look forward to enhancing and expanding the CLIP program in 2022.”

“We’re fortunate to live in an area that believes in giving back to our community. Thanks to the very generous donors we were able to award well-deserved grants to some organizations that are changing lives in McHenry County,” said Deborah Thielen, Executive Director, The Community Foundation for McHenry County.

In addition to receiving the grant, TLC would like to congratulate the first graduating class of CLIP interns: Evelyn Bustos, Claire Gregory, Sofia Oropeza, Arden Podpora and Kristi Robinson, who concluded their internship on Aug. 13.
