Summer Position – Seasonal Restoration Technician
The Land Conservancy of McHenry County is hiring a Seasonal Restoration Technician for the Summer of 2023.
Position title “Seasonal Restoration Tech”
May 2023-August 2023 for 40 hours/week at a rate of $16/hour
General position description – splitting your time between the duties of a stewardship intern and the CLIP crew leader. This position is geared toward college-aged (or recent graduates) individuals who display leadership abilities.
Stewardship intern duties: help with stewardship and land management activities at TLC (including but not limited to)
● Invasive species management (Backpack spraying, handwicking, hand pulling, cut stump etc)
● Planting native plugs or sowing native seed
● Collecting native seed
● Maintaining equipment and tools
● Working solo on occasion
CLIP crew leader duties: Assist CLIP director with various program elements (including but not limited to)
● Transport and supervise CLIPterns on local field trips (i.e. small waters, Bluestem Ecological, McHenry County College, Butterfly surveys)
■ Take photos of trips
● Lead interns on stewardship excursions (i.e seed collection, invasive species management)
■ Pack truck with appropriate equipment (i.e. herbicide, surfactant, backpack sprayers, PPE, safety gear, personal gear)
■ Take photos of trips
● Provide support to CLIPsters as needed (answer questions you feel comfortable answering)
● Help with CLIP administrative duties (printing, filing, tracking stewardship work completed)
● Be an example of safety and hard/efficient working for the other interns
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
● Participate in pre-season training during the end of May 2023
○ Field safety training, Vehicle safety training, Herbicide safety and preparedness training etc.
● Housing (local)
● Transportation to TLC headquarters (4622 Dean St. Woodstock IL, 60098)
